L.J. Smith has a book out in the market as of March 15 of this year. I was planning on purchasing an ebook version when I saw the reviews.

This is the last installment on the Vampire Diaries that is ever to come from L.J. Smith and the publisher who is claiming rights over the books shall consider the services of another writer to continue the series. L.J. Smith has bitter remarks, full of angst and so were the avid readers. Many were disappointed on with the actual book that was released but more than that, they are asking readers to boycott the upcoming ones.

I can sympathize with L.J. Smith, how would you feel if something you had worked for half of your life is taken from you because of a technicality or worse, continued without you?

Having asked that made me think further as the question applies to an aspect of my life.

All my writings are up to the core and if I were to write fiction, my characters would be breathing with me everyday. They will die without me. They are mine. They are me.

And that wouldn’t be the same if I were writing for someone or making a living out of it. Because then, I shouldn’t be writing about me.

I learned that our personal life must not be mixed with work, that we should separate the line between what’s work and what’s personal, with what’s real amd imaginary, what’s ours and what we sold.

It is nothing different with selling services.

And so, I applaud L.J. Smith for being true to herself. It will take time to cope and even be as objective for someone who has talent and imagination, she will prevail. And it will be so nice to read books from her again.

L.J. Smith, please do not be a victim of typecast and commercialism. Your craft has brought you to a lot of places and will bring you into further opportunities. The Vampire Diaries isn’t the end.
